The Mexican Walking Fish, also known as the Water Dragon, is actually not a fish. It's a type of salamander. Axolotls, a more common name, come in different colors such as grey, shades of brown, leucistic (white with black eyes), golden albino, white albino, as well as other varieties, such as the melanoid (a near-black animal). The normally coloured axolotl, the "wild type", can be near-black, chocolate brown, or even creamy in colour, and anywhere in between. The really rare type of Axolotls can be neon green and pink, even really bright orange. They have to ability to grow back limbs, like other lizards, and have a three-chambered heart. Axolotls never grow out of their larvae state, even as an adult they look somewhat like a tadpole. Axolotls can live up to 25 years and the biggest one spotted was 2 1/2 feet long! Unlike other amphibians, they are actually meat eaters. These fish are highly aggressive and can eat beef heart and liver. Evolution states that the species started in the oceans and moved to land. Axololt females lay up to 20000 eggs. After the female lays her eggs she kills the male so that when the eggs hatch they can eat him. The Mexican Walking Fish are going extinct, there used to be 1,500 per square mile and now it has reduced to just 25. Some Axolotls can be taught tricks and are very intelligent, but they are very aggressive and will even bite the hand feeding them.
